In the fall of 2007 I made a goal of planting 1000 trees....
“Trees are the best monuments that a man can erect to his own memory. They speak his praises without flattery, and they are blessings to children yet unborn.” – Lord Orrery, 1749
My mother had this Salix discolor "pussy willow" in a pot but helped me plant it on the steep slope below my parent's house. It looks like just a stick right now but will eventually have pretty little flowers (called catkins) and make nice cuttings for flower arrangements.
Family: Salicaceae (sal-i-KAY-see-ee)
Genus: Salix (SAL-iks)
Species: discolor (DIS-kol-or)

A friend passed this fig off to me. I planted it on the side of the house where I can espalier it on the west wall in the zone between house and fence I call "Death Alley" due to the warm afternoon heat. Here I have cacti and succulents thriving. I hope to give the fig the long warm season it needs to ripen it's fruit.
Family: Moraceae
Genus: Ficus
Species: F. carica
Cultivar: Ficus carica 'Panachée'
Photo to come.
