We planted five olives and two peach trees Saturday at my parent's Potter Valley property. This is a Spanish olive, the fifth olive of the day and the third of three Arbequinas along a hillside berm.
It's a table olive as well as used to produce a highly valued olive oil, a more buttery oil with a slightly peppery finish.
Family: Oleaceae
Genus: Sequoia Olea
Species: europaea
Cultivar: Arbequina

Over a year ago, Rick and I transplanted several fig shoots from his adult tree. I foster them in pots until finding permanent homes for them. This one is now planted at my friend Ben's house in Santa Rosa. The mother tree at Rick's house is known to be a Calimyrna fig, the California version of the Smyrna fig.

A friend passed this fig off to me. I planted it on the side of the house where I can espalier it on the west wall in the zone between house and fence I call "Death Alley" due to the warm afternoon heat. Here I have cacti and succulents thriving. I hope to give the fig the long warm season it needs to ripen it's fruit.

Genus: Ficus
Species: F. carica
Cultivar: Ficus carica 'Panachée'
